Raw, virgin or Remy, what is the difference? Three different claims, often sold as one.
Short answer
Remy means every strand runs root to tip in the same direction. Virgin means the hair has never been chemically processed. Raw usually means single-donor hair that has not been mixed or steamed. A listing can be truthfully Remy without being virgin, and hair sold as raw is frequently neither, which is why the wash and bleach tests matter more than the label.

Why non-Remy is cheap
Collected hair that is not aligned gets its cuticle stripped in an acid bath so the strands stop fighting each other, then coated with silicone so it feels good in the hand. It performs for a few weeks and then mats at the mid-lengths.
How to tell what you received
Wash ten times without conditioner. Coated hair changes character sharply once the silicone leaves. Aligned Remy hair keeps behaving the same way. Bleach a section and check whether the lift is even along the strand.

Questions buyers ask
Is Remy hair the same as virgin hair?
No. Remy describes cuticle direction, virgin describes the absence of chemical processing. Hair can be Remy and coloured, which means it is Remy but not virgin.
What does cuticle aligned mean?
It means the root-to-tip alignment survives washing, colouring and finishing. Without it, hair tangles at the mid-lengths after a few washes.
Is raw hair better than Remy hair?
Raw usually means single-donor and unprocessed, which limits the shade range but keeps the hair in its natural state. For a salon selling blondes, well-processed cuticle-aligned Remy is usually the more practical stock.
How can I prove hair is Remy?
Run your fingers down the strand in both directions, wash it ten times without conditioner and watch the mid-lengths, and ask the supplier for the lot record for your batch.
