How each is built
A hand-tied weft is knotted by hand along a thread. It is thin and flexible but cannot be cut — cutting releases the knots and the weft unravels. Row placement must be planned around fixed widths.
A Genius Weft is machine-wefted and then hand-finished so the return is folded and secured. The result is nearly as thin as hand-tied, sits flat under a bead row, and can be cut to width without shedding.
Which one the salon should stock
Genius Weft suits salons that want flexibility and fewer SKUs: one weft, cut to fit each head. Hand-tied suits stylists trained in a specific row system who prefer the thinnest possible seam and plan widths in advance.
Cost sits close, with hand-tied usually higher because of labour hours per gram.
Where quality fails in each
Hand-tied fails at knot density — too loose and it sheds under tension. Genius Weft fails at the return — a poorly folded, thinly glued return sheds after a few washes regardless of hair quality.
When testing either, wash and brush aggressively at the weft line specifically, not just at the ends.
Which should a salon choose?
Choose Genius Weft when you want to cut one weft to fit different section widths, carry fewer stock lengths, and give clients a flat seam that survives repeated move-ups.
Choose hand-tied when a client has very fine hair and wants the softest, thinnest possible seam, and you are happy to install the weft at the width it was made.
Many busy salons stock both: Genius Weft as the everyday row weft, hand-tied for the finest-haired clients.
What does not change between them
The hair inside can be exactly the same. Cuticle direction, drawn level and how the blonde was lifted decide how long either weft lasts, not the seam style.
Buyer Questions
Can Genius Wefts be cut anywhere?
Yes, when the return is properly constructed. Cut, then wash and brush the cut end hard before installing to confirm.
Which lasts longer?
Both last as long as the hair does when construction is sound. Construction quality, not weft type, decides service life.
Is Genius Weft better than hand tied?
Neither is better for every client. Genius Weft is cuttable and more flexible for stock; hand-tied has the softest seam for very fine hair. Pick by the client, not by the trend.
Can I order both from one supplier?
Yes. We make both in our own factory from the same hair, so shades match across both wefts.
