Why blonde hair extensions go brassy (and how to stop it)

Brassiness is the most common complaint on blonde extensions. It usually starts at the factory, long before the hair reaches the salon.

Where brass comes from

Dark hair contains warm pigment. If lightening is rushed, warm pigment is left behind and covered with toner. When the toner washes out, the brass returns.

Slow lightening

Lightening slowly, at low strength, removes more warm pigment evenly and keeps the cuticle strong. This is the Italian method we use at our factory.

In the salon

Use a purple or blue shampoo once a week, avoid hard water build-up, and use heat protection.

Buyer Questions

Can brassy extensions be fixed?

Toning helps for a while. If the hair was rushed at the factory, the brass will keep coming back.
