Salon education · Bonds
Protein tips and keratin tips, explained by the people who make the bond.
Salons ask us this most weeks: is a protein tip different from a keratin tip, and does it matter? Both names describe a pre-formed bond moulded onto the root end of an extension strand and melted onto the client's own hair with a heat connector. Keratin is a protein, so the two names overlap far more than the marketing around them suggests. What separates one bond from another is the polymer blend, the melting range, how cleanly it releases at removal, and above all the quality of the hair the bond is holding.
- Keratin is a protein. A protein tip and a keratin tip both describe a heat-fused pre-bonded strand, not two different technologies.
- The real differences are the melting range, the flexibility of the cured bond, the shape (flat, U-tip, nail tip, stick) and how the bond releases with remover.
- A soft, low-melt bond is kinder to fine hair; a firmer bond survives heavier density and frequent heat styling.
- No bond chemistry rescues weak hair. If the strand was fast-bleached, it fails at the tip long before the bond does.
- We make our own bonds in India: cuticle-aligned Remy hair, slow colour development, bonds moulded and checked on our own lines.

What a bond actually is
A pre-bonded tip is a thermoplastic polymer, usually keratin-based, moulded around the aligned root end of a hair strand. Heat softens it, the stylist rolls it around a section of the client's own hair, and it cures as it cools. Names like protein tip describe the same category with a different label on the box.
What separates a good bond from a poor one
Three things, all decided in production. The melting range: too high and the client's own hair takes the heat, too low and the bond slips. The cure: a bond that stays slightly flexible moves with the head instead of snapping. The seal: hair must be fully encased at the root, or the bond sheds strands from week two.
Removal, which is where bonds are judged
A well-made bond swells with an alcohol-based remover and crumbles away without dragging the client's hair. A bond that has been over-hardened, or built with poor adhesion, either refuses to release or leaves residue that the stylist has to comb out. Ask any supplier how their bond removes before you ask what it costs.
The part nobody markets: the hair
A bond holds for the whole install. The hair has to survive washing, straightening, curling and reinstalling. That is decided by texture sorting and slow colour development, not by the tip. We lift blondes over days in long low-strength baths, which is why our mid-lengths still behave like hair after ten washes.
Buyer Questions
Straight answers.
Is a protein tip different from a keratin tip?
Not in category. Keratin is a protein, and both names describe a pre-formed bond that is melted onto the client's own hair. Suppliers use different polymer blends, hardness levels and melting ranges, and those are worth asking about. The name on the packaging is not.
Which bond is best for fine hair?
A smaller, softer, lower-melt bond in a flat or nail-tip shape, placed with less hair per bond. The bond matters less than the weight you hang from it: overloading fine hair causes tension damage whatever the tip is made of.
How long should a bonded install last?
Most salons re-tip at three to four months, driven by natural regrowth rather than bond failure. If mid-lengths feel dry or the tips look like fluff before then, the problem is the hair's processing, not the bond.
Do you make protein or keratin bonded hair for salons?
Yes. We manufacture keratin-bonded strands, nail tips, flat tips and stick tips on our own lines in India, in the shades you send us, from 1kg per colour and length. We also produce them under salon and brand private labels from 10kg.
What is the minimum order?
The first wholesale order starts from 1kg total, with the product and shade mix agreed before quotation. Wholesale terms apply from 3kg per order. Private label and OEM start at 10kg.
Can I test the hair before I commit?
Yes. Order a trial in the two shades you sell most, wash it, colour it, install it, and keep the approved piece. We hold the same reference sample here, so every reorder is matched against the hair you already accepted.
Are you the manufacturer or a trading company?
We own the Indian factory. Sorting, washing, colouring and weft finishing happen on our own lines, and our own quality control checks each lot before it is packed for export.
How do you ship and how long does it take?
Express air freight, usually 3 to 6 days door to door, with the export paperwork prepared by us. We ship to the USA, Canada, the UK, the EU, Australia and the Gulf.

Why we do not sell 100g trial bundles
We have deliberately moved away from the 100–200g sample model. A single bundle is installed on one or two clients, so one experience becomes the whole judgement of the product. It shows nothing about how a shade repeats, how two batches compare, or how the hair behaves after repeated washing in a working salon.
A 1kg commercial trial covers roughly ten to twelve client applications across two shades. It gives you feedback from paying clients, a view of consistency across a meaningful quantity, and a proper read on how the product performs in your market. The hair in a 1kg trial is taken from the same sorting tables as a 20kg production run, so there is no separate sample standard to be disappointed by later.
We are the manufacturer, not a trading desk placing bundles with twenty buyers at once. We work with established salons, extension specialists, distributors and brands who already know their methods, lengths and shades, and who want one accountable source instead of a continuous supplier search.
